Team Bahrain Merida to Giro della Toscana and Coppa Sabatini
Monday, September 16th – After the opening weekend of the ‘Trittico Regione Lombardia’, Team Bahrain Merida will stay in Italy to take on two other one-day races, in Tuscany this time: “Giro della Toscana – Memorial Alfredo Martini” on Wednesday, September 18th and “Gran Premio Città di Peccioli – Coppa Sabatini” on Thursday, September 19th.
With the exception of Jan Tratnik, the lineup competing at Giro della Toscana is the same as the last two Italian races. “Andrea Garosio showed a good shape at Agostoni taking a top ten place and we believe he can do well also on this course, that is a selective one” TBM Sports Director Franco Pellizotti explains commenting the 204.4km route with start and finish in Pontedera. “Riders will have to face the ascent of Mount Serra three times and even if the last one is about at 30km to go, you should still have good legs and energies to contest the win in the finale”.
The day after Sonny Colbrelli will join the team in the Coppa Sabatini, a race that he won twice in 2014 and in 2016, taking also second place twice in the past two editions. “Those results prove that this course suits him very well, with the traditional final circuit – including the short, but demanding climb in Peccioli to repeat 6 times and the uphill finish” Pellizotti says “He will be our leader and the boys will help him to try to take his third victory here. I think that other riders as Bauhaus and Sieberg are very motivated and can add their enthusiasm, after the success at Coppa Bernocchi. The Italian rider instead was competing in Canada and he will be back in Italy tomorrow. Canadian races didn’t go as he wanted, therefore on Thursday he will be looking for success”.
Team Bahrain Merida line-up for ‘Giro della Toscana’ and ‘Coppa Sabatini’: Phil Bauhaus, Chun Kai Feng, Andrea Garosio, Antonio Nibali, Marcel Sieberg, Sonny Colbrelli (only Sabatini).
