Team Bahrain Merida to Bretagne Classic
Friday, August 30th– A big weekend of racing ahead for Team Bahrain Merida, that on Sunday, September 1st will compete on three fronts: La Vuelta a España, Deutschland Tour and Bretagne Classic Ouest-France too.
Originally named Grand-Prix de Plouay, this Classic WorldTour race still start and finish in the Breton village of Plouay in Western France, but the course has been changed in the past few years in order to enhance difficulties and spectacle. Riders will face a demanding 248.1km route, including the traditional 13.9 final circuit, a dozen little climbs and two gravel sectors with about 80km to go.
“The course winks both at the Ardennes and cobbled Classics” Team Bahrain Merida Sports Director Alberto Volpi explains “It’s one of the hardest edition so far with 3300m of total elevation, narrow roads and about 40 côtes to climb, that can be very selective as well as the gravel roads. Moreover, riders have to pay attention also to the wind while running along the coast”.
A course that therefore particularly suits riders like Matej Mohorič and Ivan Cortina. “They will be our leaders to Bretagne Classic” Volpi adds “Both have shown their skills in the Classics and above all, they are in good form. We are definitely aiming a podium in Plouay”.
They will be supported by Valerio Agnoli, Chun Kai Feng, Jan Tratnik and they can rely also on the great experience of Grega Bole, who is a former winner of the Grand Prix de Plouay (2011) and will compete there for the sixth time.
