Strong BAHRAIN MERIDA lineup for Coppa Agostoni and Bernocchi

  |   Press

Thursday, September 13thBAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team is looking to leave its mark on the upcoming one-day races: the Coppa Agostoni and the Coppa Bernocchi – which are both part of the famous Trittico Lombardo series – respectively on Saturday, September 15th and Sunday, September 16th.

“We have named a very strong squad for both races, that are two classics races of the Italian calendar” explain Team BAHRAIN MERIDA Sports Director Alberto Volpi  “According to how the race will unfold, we can rely on skilled athletes, who can act properly and be leaders in different racing moments. This is our philosophy both for Agostoni, with a more demanding course and Bernocchi, which suits best to pure sprinters. Our man for a sprint finish will be Sonny Colbrelli for sure, but I strongly believe in the whole team”.

Both Colbrelli and Visconti are former winners of the Coppa Agostoni (2016 and 2009). The 199km race starting and finishing in Lissone, near Monza, will feature the traditional course, with the four laps of the hilly circuit in Brianza, including the climbs of Sirtori, Colle Brianza and Lissolo, before heading to the flat finish. Next day the Coppa Bernocchi: a special edition for the centenary of this classical Lombard race, with the return of the city circuit (to be repeated three times) in Legnano, north of Milan, start and finish of the race, 194.7km as tradition with the challenging circuit of the Valle Olona (16.7 km with the GPM of Morazzone), to be repeated 6 times.

Sonny Colbrelli won also the Coppa Bernocchi, of which he is defending champion: “They are both races in which I took a victory, so of course I want to try again to go for it. Let’s see how the race will unfold, in particular the Coppa Agostoni, which route is hardest and it is likely that there will be a selection before the finale. I returned from Canada in good shape, even if I’m still recover from jet leg, but I trained well anyway. So let’s restart from the good second place at the GP Montréal”.
