Strade Bianche

March 9th

SATURDAY, 9 MAR 2019

Siena (Medicea fortress) – Siena (Piazza del Campo), 184km, with 63km of gravel roads, appearing in 11 sectors.

Team BAHRAIN MERIDA Sports Director Alberto Volpi shared his overview about today’s race: “We know it is a very hard race and in fact it was as expected. It’s survival of the fittest. Our boys did what they could. The key moment of the race was on Sector 8, where Vincenzo Nibali couldn’t stay with the leading 14-man group just for few seconds. Then unfortunately he ran out of energies, both due to his condition and to the demanding moment of the race. All in all a result in line with expectations.”
