Stormy TTT with no risks for TBM

  |   Press

Calpe, Friday, 2nd February 2018 – 3rd stage of the 69th edition of Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana started in Benitatxell. It was a Team Time Trial stage of 23 km with the finish in Calpe.

From the early morning hours, the heavy weather conditions were the main topic for the teams and also the organizers, who had to reduce the length of the stage from 30 to 23 km. There was some really heavy rain and stormy conditions until an hour before the stage started. Considering the circumstances, the organizers made a compromise that the stage should start, but the TTT will count only for day classification, not for the overall time. So general classification would stay the same as after the 2nd stage.

Sports directors of BAHRAIN MERIDA TeamRik Verbrugghe and Harald Morscher, decided together with the riders that they should go and have a good practice but without taking any risks. Tomorrow’s fourth stage should be a new opportunity for our team to get Giovanni Visconti higher in the general classification.

BMC Racing Team took a TTT victory and Alejandro Valverde remains the GC leader at Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana.
