Jebel Hafeet , February 25th – The emirate’s highest peak, Jebel Hafeet, was the judge of the Stage 3 of the Abu Dhabi Tour (186 km, starting from Al Ain) and of the whole race as well.

The Queen Stage, where the showdown between the big is usually expected, has been taken by Rui Costa , who became the leader of the race too. He won a two men sprint , ahead of Zakarin. Everything’s was set on the final 11 km climb, Jebel Hafeet – with slopes with an 11% gradient – where the finish sits at an altitude of 1,025 m.

The favourites controlled each others and BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team’s leader Vincenzo Nibali tested his shape with some attempt of attack: “It was a war of nerves between the big. Attacks and counterattacks. I can say I resist well and I can just improve, but my road to the Giro is proceeding well. I’m happy for today’s performance”.

Nibali finished 15th with a gap of 1’05” from the winner. “After the first stage race in Argentina, it was an important test” said the Sports Director Paolo Slongo “Vincenzo was along with the big, keeping the change of rhythm, even trying some attacks. He still miss the full gas of the finale, but I’m sure that he will soon succeed. I’m satisfied”.

Tomorrow the last stage (143 km) entirely on Yas Island with 26 laps of the F1 Yas Marina circuit with start at 18.15 (local time) and finish around 21.15. A bunch sprint is expected.
