  |   Press

Dubai, February 1st, Stage 2 Rak Al Khaimah

Today stage is similar to yesterdays, it’s 5km more to ride, total of 186km, and it is sprinter’s stage. The finish line is in one of the world’s fastest growing destination – Ras Al Khaimah.

Just like yesterday 4 riders took off in the break. And also just like yesterday they were caught 12km to go. In a bunch sprint Marcel Kittel from QuickStep Floors won again, showing that he’s in top form early in the season.

Sonny was unlucky again, he had puncture about 11km to go, but team managed to deliver him back to the peloton, unfortunately it was too late to have fresh legs for a final sprint.

After the race Luka Pibernik said: “In the final everything was ok, but we missed it. Sonny had puncture, we came back 10km to go, but we missed the final sprint. Tomorrow is another chance.”

Sports Director Alberto Volpi: ”The stage was a little complicated as Sonny had puncture. Feng gave him his wheel and in the final the team organized the sprint for Colbrelli, but today the result is not the best.”
