Sonny is second once again
Yverdon-les-Bains, 26th April 2018 – Another second place for Sonny Colbrelli on the shores of Leman Lake. The strong Italian rider won the bunch sprint, but it was the Belgian Thomas de Gendt who anticipated everyone and took the victory of the Tour de Romandie’s 2nd stage.
“Second. There is not much else to say – Sonny comments – we did a good job but Thomas was in a super day. Too bad, because the sensations continue to be good and now I just have to wait for the last stage in Geneva next Sunday”.
“It has been a tough stage – says Hermann Pernsteiner – we have been in front of the peloton for a long time trying to catch the breakaway. I made a great effort pushing a lot on the last climb and after on the flat but it was not enough”.
For the Sport Director Rik Verbrugghe: “Another good race from the whole squad. We took responsibility for the pursuit and unfortunately we did not find much collaboration in the other teams. Tomorrow there will be an important stage for the general classification. An uphill ITT (from Ollon to Villars, 9.9km, 7.9%) with slopes more suitable for climbers. I expect that the Izagirre brothers will made a good performance against high level competitors”.
Ion Izagirre is ready for the challenge. “I know the route – he explains – and is really a steady climb. The only way to deal with it is to give everything you have. I feel good and I think this time trial will be more decisive than Saturday’s queen stage “.
