Sonny Colbrelli takes a majestic success at the Tour de Suisse
Gansingen (Switzerland), June 11th – Stage 3 route from Oberstammheim to Gansingen (182.8km) was similar to Spring Classics with five category 3 climbs all in the final 70 km. A tough sprint finish was expected today and rain continued to fall over the stage. Three pieces of evidence for predicting Sonny Colbrelli’s victory.
In fact BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team rider took a superb win, beating Gaviria and World Champion Sagan, after a bunch sprint. “It’s a fantastic day. It’s a very important victory for me and for the team. Thanks to my teammates, that did an amazing work in the final. Padun Gasparotto, the Izagirre brothers, everybody” comments Sonny who launched his sprint with 250 m to go “I went from a long way out in the sprint, a long, long way out so that I could anticipate strong sprinters like Gaviria and Sagan. As I did at Paris-Nice last year”. It is his second victory of the season and his first here at the Tour de Suisse: “Yesterday I had a bad day and today I wanted to bounce back and I succeeded thanks to my teammates’ help too. I’m really happy”.
Colbrelli and all the team deserved today’s success, after a perfect teamwork in the final, with three guys at the front as highlights Sports Director Rik Verbrugghe, who adds “Great victory today. Congrats to all the team”.
