The whole team performed well in the lead up to the sprint finish, Sonny 9th

Dubai, February 7th, 2018 – It’s a sunny day with the slight breeze coming from the sea side. After going inland avoiding center of Dubai, the race course comes to Ajman and from there hugs the coastal line all the way to the finish line at Ras Al Khaimah making 190km in the process. The race started fast as 3 bonus seconds were on offer at the intermediate sprint after only 18km. 6 riders took off and created the distance to the peloton over 2 minutes. Our riders were all together throughout the race in the middle of the peloton. Both our riders (Bole and Cortina) involved in yesterday’s crash are feeling great today. The breakaway was caught 14km to go and from there it was race for positions, who will be on the front at the sharp corner 1.5km to go, and launch the sprint. Our team was leading the peloton 3km to go and managed to turn the corner at the front, and everything was going as planned, but in the final 500m, Sonny was locked on the inside and couldn’t find a route to the front, so he finished 9th. Elia Viviani from Quick-Step Floors celebrated his birthday with the win.

Sonny Colbrelli was emotional as always: “Great work of the team today. Too bad that in the last 500/600 meters I had to swerve and I lost some positions, but I succeeded to perform a come back. I’m happy because all the team did a great work, Vincenzo too and I must say thank to them.”
