Solid Performance of Pellizotti and Brajkovič at the 6th Stage of Criterium du Dauphiné
LE PARC DES OISEAUX, VILLARS-LES-DOMBES – LA MOTTE SERVOLEX – 145.5 km / Stage 6
La Motte Servolex, France, June 9th – Stage 6 of Criterium du Dauphiné led back to the mountains. Riders were faced with a hard challenge, including a hors category climb.
Stage 6 of Critérium du Dauphiné started today at the beautiful ornithological park Oiseaux, Villars-Les-Dombes, in a cloudy weather with little rain, that stopped soon after the start. The stage had three categorized climbs plus Mont Du Chat, a hors category climb, which is 8.7 km long with more than 10.3% gradient after which follows a fast 10 km descent and then flat 5 km to the finish.
Today’s strategy was clear. If possible, one of our riders should get to the breakaway, if not, all should stay safe in the peloton and work hard especially on the last, decisive climb. BAHRAIN MERIDA riders, Franco Pellizotti and Jani Brajkovič, performed well, using all of their experience and strength, especially on the hard hors category climb and the demanding downhill that followed. They took 24th and 30th place. In the end, a Danish rider Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) took the victory over Richie Porte (BMC) and Chris Froom (SKY).
Grega Bole commented today’s stage: “Today’s start was pretty fast and then the breakaway went on and BMC took control of the group so up to the last climb nothing special was going on. The last climb was really steep and after that the downhill was demanding with hard turns and it was a bit bumpy and even scary. Let’s focus now on another hard stage tomorrow.”
