Seven riders for the Italian road championship

  |   Press

Next Sunday Compiano, a small town in the Emilian Apennines, will host the Italian road cycling championships. The route is 227km with the final circuit of 12.5km to be repeated ten times. Probably the climb to Strela – over 5km with maximum slopes of 10% – will be decisive for the final win.

Seven TBM’s riders will at the start including Vincenzo Nibali and Sonny Colbrelli. “The route is not easy at all and also very selective – explains SD Franco Pellizotti – in the final circuit there is so much uphill and downhill with only 3km entirely flat where you can try to recover time. Vincenzo will be our leader with Damiano Caruso and Domenico Pozzovivo who will be close to him uphill and also able to try to do their race if the conditions allow it. Sonny Colbrelli will be our outsider “.

Vincenzo Nibali and Caruso will arrive directly from the training camp held in the mountains in Livigno. “We worked well for two weeks to recover from the Tour of Italy and prepare for the Tour de France – says Damiano – I saw that the route is very particular with almost 4000 meters of elevation gain and therefore I expect a lot of selection. I am ready to give my contribution as well as, if there is the possibility, to try to win ”.
