Pozzovivo climbs up to 9th place in GC after the “desert stage”

Eilat, May 6th–  Stage 3 ; Be’er Shewa – Eilat –229 km

The todays’ third and final stage of the Giro abroad got its’ name «the desert stage». More than 200 kilometers throughout the everlasting desert landscapes with a continous crosswind along its’ way didn’t give us much excitements up to the last 25 km when the peloton broke into many smaller groups and did some mess and stress for some teams and TBM as well.

Giovanni Visconti; “It was a very fast stage with 45km/h average speed. In the last 20km even up to 70km/h. Due to the wind we risked to be behind and to loose precious time for the GC. We succeeded in helping Domenico Pozzovivo to stay at the front, so we can say that the day was quite good for us”.

Niccoló Bonifazio; «Unfortunately I was off the back and couldn’t contest the sprint today due to the side wind that split the peloton. You have to watch out since the start in this new cycling. For riders as me who were behind it was impossible to retrieve to better positions in the final due to the strong wind. I didn’t have good chances today».

Elia Viviani (Quick-Step Floors) took his second consecutive sprint victory at the “Giro 101”. Sacha Modolo, another Italian EF Drapac Canondale was the runner up and Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe) third at todays’ stage.

Rohan Dennis (BMC) caries the Maglia Rosa to Catania (ITA) tommorrow and Domenico Pozzovivo climbs up one step onto 9th position in GC.
