Pozzovivo 7th at the Milano-Torino
Superga (TO), October 10th – Domenico Pozzovivo was amongst the best riders today at the 99th Milano-Torino. Team BAHRAIN MERIDA leader took 7th place, crossing the finish line atop Superga hill 41 seconds after the solo winner Pinot, with Lopez 2nd and Valverde 3rd.
This year’s edition of the oldest bicycle race in the world featured a course of 200km from Magenta to Superga, with the riders that will have to climb the ascent (average gradient 9.1%) twice, with the exception of the final short (600m) 8.2% climb. As expected that was the decisive part of the race.
The first ascent made a big selection already and the strongest riders begun their challenge. Several attacks continued until the thrilling final. “Pozzovivo didn’t have his best legs, but he was able to save energies and resist on the final ascent to Superga” Team BAHRAIN MERIDA Sports Director Alberto Volpi explains “He did the best he could and he can be satisfied with his results, considering that some of the strongest riders in the world were racing today, including the World Champion Valverde, who grabbed the podium”.
