Pozzovivo 6th at the Tour of the Alps opening stage
Folgaria (Trentino, Italy) Monday 16th April – Good start for BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team competing this week at the Tour of the Alps. Our leader for the General Classification Domenico Pozzovivo takes 6th place in the opening stage of the Euroregional stage race, which started today from Arco and finished on Folgaria Plateau at 1,150 meters after 134,6km.
“I’m in good condition and I’m happy with today result. I knew that the final did not suit me, but I keep the wheels of the big” says our captain who came to the finish together with a small group including Froome and Pinot, just 10” behind the solo winner Bilbao, who tops his teammate Sanchez and Cuervo (+6”).
“Our GC leader Pozzovivo performed well on today’s climb and was able to stay with the overall contenders” explains TBM Sports Director Alberto Volpi “I’m happy for the race of Mark Padun too. He supported our captain and was among the best at the finish. All in all I’m satisfied with the whole team’s performance ahead of tomorrow’s difficult stage”.
Stage 2 will be the most difficult of this edition, with the iconic climb of Pampeago after facing the Redebus Pass. “Tomorrow is a different climb, very steep and better for me. There we can see the real condition of the overall contenders in particular in the last 4 km. I’ve already won on this finish and I hope I will have good legs. If I will be good I’ll try something” concludes Domenico Pozzovivo.
