Podium for Matej Mohorič at Tour of Slovenia
Novo mesto, Sunday, June 17th – Successful finish for Team Bahrain Merida and 3rdplace in General Classification for Matej Mohorič who performed well with his team throughout the whole race.
After today’s decisive individual time trial for 3rdplace, Matej Mohorič was the fastest and achieved terrific 3rdplace overall among few contenders for the podium and overall among strong competitors at the 25thedition of Tour of Slovenia where we have seen 9 WorldTour teams. The winner of the race was Primož Roglič (Lotto-NL Jumbo) and 2ndplace was taken by Rigoberto Uran (Team EF Education First-Drapac), both an exceptional strong riders. And a podium in this company is an honour.
Team Bahrain Merida performed very well on Tour of Slovenia. Even they haven’t taken any stage they were absolutely one of the strongest teams and protagonists on each stage. On the opening stage, Niccolò was close in the sprint and he finished 3rd, Matej was 2nd on yesterday’s king stage. In all other stages Team Bahrain Merida conducted the pace and played an important game in decomposition.
Right after an individual time trial Matej was not immediately sure where he can jump at the general classification scale. His first thoughts were even a bit grey and he didn’t feel that he performed very fast today. But few minutes later, when other four riders finished the race, it was obvious he was enough fast to stand on the podium and put high bronze prize at the home race on.
When he realised he has to hurry to the podium he commented from his bike: “We are pretty satisfied with the result. Today at the start, the legs were a bit tired from yesterday’s hard stage and the day before but I still tried to do my best and do it a good time trial. I am satisfied with the result, especially with the 3rdplace in General Classification.”
Head of Sports Director Gorazd Štangelj yesterday after the stage commented that podium would be a great achievement and a big success and that happened today. He and another Sports Director Vladimir Miholjević, who are both familiar with the race from the times when they were both get on the podium, made a wonderful job and confirmed the chosen strategy from the day one was in the right direction. Team achieved absolutely great result and is already prepared for a new race with one title more.
