Not a simple stage

  |   Press

Saint-Lary-Soulan, July 25th, ST17 – “It was like making a 65km time trial – says Franco Pellizotti – I tried to attack with other riders just after the start but then the yellow jersey group took us I tried to stay with them. I held on tight with only 10km to go but then I lost some ground “.

It was one of the most awaited stages of this Tour: short of only 65km but with three steep climbs. “We spent a lot of energy in the past few days trying to win a stage – comments SD Gorazd Štangelj, “that today we have paid our efforts. Already tomorrow, however, the route offers us some possibilities and we will give our best “.

Stage 17 will bring the bunch up to the traditional Tour finish in Pau. After the many climbs of recent days, the 171km have a profile mostly flat. The only pitfall is the Côte d’Anoss (2.1km, 4.6%) with less than 20km to go.

A finish that could please our Sonny Colbrelli: “It ‘s the penultimate opportunity that I have in this Tour – says the Italian rider – and I’ll certainly try to give us our first victory. There are not many sprinters left in the bunch and I’ll have to pay attention to a couple of teams and play my chances “.
