Nibali very close to victory
“Victory ran away again – explains Vincenzo Nibali, today second in Cles – but morale is good because the sensations are the right ones. Day after day, I feel that the condition is growing and I am leaving for the Liege-Bastogne-Liege with a good spirit”.
The Italian champion has tried several times to detach his opponents, the first time four kilometers from the summit of the Predaia Pass. Nibali unleashed another set of rasping accelerations but failed to distance the other three riders and so the 4th stage ended with a sprint won by the British Tao Geoghegan Hart.
Even today, Antonio Nibali has long been on the break: “We left the peloton after 35km with the idea of forcing the other teams to work as much as possible. I am very happy with my condition after the altitude training camp and it will be even better in two weeks when the Giro d’Italia will start ”.
Sport Director Franco Pellizotti comments on today’s race: “Too bad we didn’t win the stage, but we are very satisfied with how we competed. Vincenzo tried until the last but the short stage – only 134km – favored the two young Team Sky athletes. We will try again tomorrow also because we have nothing to lose, we will at least try to win in Bolzano ”.
Ahead of Friday’s concluding stage, Nibali is now fourth in the overall standings just two second behind the third and with a 34 ”gap from the race leader Pavel Sivakov.
