Volta Ciclista a Catalunya – Stage 7

Barcelona – Barcelona (Montjuic), 154,8 km

Barcelona, 25th March, 2018.

The final stage of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya started today in the capital of Catalunya. After a stormy rain that washed the streets of Barcelona, the course was partially wet and moderate rain showers continued along the way.

TBM riders with sports directors Morscher and Miholjević had a clear goal to use every opportunity for a stage victory, considering the fact that there might be more or less safe tactics in the teams that were in the fight for GC.

Matej Mohorič went into the breakaway with seven more riders in the very early phase of the race and just before the lapping around Montjuic.

Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) achieved a solo victory in the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. He attacked in the last lap for the first place. Marc Soler (Team Movistar) was second and Pierre Latour (AG2R La Mondiale) took the third place. Alejandro Valverde (Team Movistar) took his deserved overall victory. Egan Bernal (Team Sky) was 18 seconds behind for overall, when he crashed and pulled out.

It was a very fast race and TBM had a plan to save Matej Mohorič and Enrico Gasparotto for the final, while Giovanni Visconti and Domen Novak would try to go into breakaways. Niccolo Bonifazio and Valerio Agnoli were to give assistance on the hills of Barcelona.

Matej Mohorič showed all his skills and quality on Volta Catalunya but might need some more experience for such races and some more knowledge of the team tactics. He is an extraordinary rider with enormous strength and the results that he made on Catalunya are good, but he can definitely achieve even higher goals in a short time. Matej Mohorič at the first place and the whole TBM lineup with experienced Giovanni Visconti and Enrico Gasparotto showed big potential and proved that most riders of our team are in the uprising form for future races.

There might be missing one stage victory at Catalunya, but BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team showed a good performance this week.
