Izagirre best-placed of the Team in the opener TT at the Tour de Suisse
Cham, June 10th – A fast and short time trial prologue (Cham-Cham, 6.1 km) was the opening stage of the 2017 Tour de Suisse. The best-placed of Team BAHRAIN MERIDA was Ion Izagirre, who conceded 24” to the winner Rohan Dennis.
“It was a really fast and short prologue, maybe not the best for me” said the Spanish National Time-Trial Champion who covered the course in 6’48” taking 31st place “This kind of prologues are perfect for riders like Dennis, he’s impressive and showed to be the strongest”.
Winning the opening prologue at Hub Zug in Cham, the Australian rider seized the first yellow jersey, but he’s unlikely to be one of the top favorites for the general classification. Among there is our captain Izagirre, who is looking forward next mountain stages: “It’s the first effort here at the Tour de Suisse. I hope to feel better next days in the hardest stage to come, where we can understand how are the legs”.
Tomorrow Stage 2 will still have start and finish in Cham. It will be an undulating stage, but if sprinters will not fall behind, a sprint can be expected in the finale.
