Itzulia Basque Country

April 8th – 13th

THURSDAY, 11 APR 2019

Vitoria-Gasteiz > Arrigoriaga 163.6km. Undulating with 4 categorised climbs, including a tough cat.1 ascent.

Stressful and wet day at the Itzulia Basque Country. Team Bahrain Merida Dylan Teuns finished safely the stage taking 13th, 9″ down on the winner, the general classification leader Schachmann who sprinted to win, after a four-man group late attack. It’s his third success here. Our Belgian rider is still 8th overall.
Today’s course was undulating, with four categorised climbs. The summit of the last one with just 5km from the finish line. A breakaway of seven riders including Bahrain Merida young rider Stevie Williams formed on the first ascent. He was caught with about 40km to go, but nice to see him in a good shape after a period of stop due to injury.
“It was definitely a long day. To be honest when the weather is like that it’s tough anyway.
I’m happy that I had a good day in the legs. It seems like the legs decided to come back day by day. It’s nice to be back racing and to be with the boys amongst the team”.
