Itzulia Basque Country

April 8th – 13th

MONDAY, 8 APR 2019

Zumarraga – Zumarraga, 11.2km. Individual Time Trial.

Itzulia Basque Country opened with a challenging Individual Time Trial, featuring a short, but steep climb after 8km. Moreover the demanding course was characterized by wet roads due to a morning heavy rain.
Dylan Teuns – who is Team BAHRAIN MERIDA leader for the GC – was just out of the top ten, finishing in 12th place, 32 seconds down on the winner Schachmann.
“It was a super hard course” the Belgian rider says “It fits me normally like this, but I was trying to find a good feeling again after I have been sick one and a half week ago. So I think I can be happy with this result and I think it’s good for looking forward to what is coming next”.
Today’s result is important according to the general classification as well, because after such a tough time trial, there isn’t a big gap between Teuns and the other overall fighters
“It’s a super hard race and we’re looking now day by day” he adds “Until the end I’ll try to take some more good results”.
