Tour de Suisse
Stage 9 Bellinzona-Bellinzona 34km – Individual time trial
Bellinzona (Switzerland), June 17th – The closing individual Time trial of this year’s edition of the Tour de Suisse was a fast flat 34km-course through and around Bellinzona.
The high-speed and tricky route with cobblestone in the final gave no surprise as regards the winners: Stefan Kung won the stage and his BMC teammate Richie Porte defended the yellow leader’s jersey.
BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team best-placed rider in the overall standing was the leader Ion Izagirre (15th) who conceded 3’57” to the Australian rider. “I was here to make a good General Classification, but in the end it was not possible” explains the Spaniard, who is already thinking about the next big race and aim of the team “I will keep on working to help Vincenzo Nibali at the Tour de France. There are three weeks ahead and I need to work more”.
All in all TBM Sports Directors are satisfied with the whole team’s performance at the Tour de Suisse: “This is an important race and we tried to perform to take successes as we did with Sonny” comments Tristan Hoffman “We worked well with all the team: we were in the breakaways and our young guys rode good. So we can say it was a nice Tour de Suisse for us”.
Rik Verbrugghe agrees with his colleague: “Sonny won a stage in front of two big rivals and that gave him a lot of confidence ahead of future sprints. In general we worked good, even if the end result was not perfect, but we did a good Tour de Suisse”
