Tour de France 2017.
MARSEILLE – MARSEILLE – ITT – 22.5km / Stage 20
Marseille, France, July 22nd
There was an amazing atmosphere in Marseille, location of the crucial penultimate stage of this year’s Tour de France. A 22.5km long Time Trial started and finished in the Orange Stade Velodrome, the stadium of the Mediterranean French city.
Knee pain forced Ondrej Cink to abandon the race yesterday, therefore BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team was down to seven riders at the start ramp, set inside the Velodrome.
A lot of fans supported all the riders along the course, in particular the local idol, French Roman Bardet, who was fighting for the third place overall and with only one second advantage he will be on the podium in Paris tomorrow.
On the Champs Elysée, Chris Froome will be crowned for the fourth time. With a stunning performance he took third place in the Time-Trial, six seconds behind the winner Maciej Bodnar who covered the course in 28’15”, one second ahead of Michal Kwiatkowski (2nd).
Rigoberto Uran secured his second overall place.
Today’s very technical Time Trial, with a short, steep climb to the Notre Dame de la Garde, turned out to be too demanding and too intensive for our riders. Best placed for our team was Grega Bole (+02’ 54”).
Tomorrow is the final stage, from Montgeron to Paris Champs-Élysées (103km).
