“I tried to surprise everyone”
Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert, 4th June, 1st stage – “I saw the “flame rouge” and so I tried to surprise the bunch – comments Vincenzo Nibali – but they did not let me go. It has been a fairly quiet day, for the decisive stages we will have to wait on Wednesday with TTT “.
“Here in France – says Franco Pellizotti – we must always be open-eyed. Attention must be paid to narrow roads and on these undulating routes there is always a certain stress inside the peloton. There were a couple of falls and the one with only 7km to go broke the group and decided today race”.
In fact, the South African champ Daryl Impey won the first stage preceding a group of about 60 riders. The Polish Michal Kwiatkowski is still the race leader with few seconds on the opponents.
“When in the finale they felt – says Heinrich Haussler – unfortunately I was in the second part of the group and therefore I could not make the sprint. Tomorrow, the stage is similar and I hope to be there in the front lo look for victory “
The second stage will bring the peloton from Montbrison to Belleville after 181km. The first part of the stage does not offer particular difficulties, while in the second there are several climbs but non long -4/5 km – with a maximum gradient of 6%. Space for the attackers or a bunch sprint?
