Giovanni Visconti 2nd on the Queen Stage of Tour of Slovenia

Rogla, 17th June – After a bad luck on yesterday’s stage, BAHRAIN MERIDA Team is satisfied with the race today and the final result of Giovanni Visconti, who came on top of the mountain just after one of the strongest climber, Rafal Majka.

»I watched the last 45 km and you fought like a lion,” wrote to Giovanni Visconti his unfortunate teammate, Kanstantsin Siutsou, from the hospital. Siutsou was the strongest BAHRAIN MERIDA Team weapon for today’s stage. He had surgery yesterday right after he was brought to the hospital and so far doctors informed the team that he is recovering well.

»I would dedicate the win to you, Kosta, but unfortunately I didn’t succeed. What I wish for you is that you fight with everything you have and that you get better soon,” replied Giovanni to him.

About today’s stage Giovanni said: »I am happy that I came back to races after I finished Giro injured. I am very satisfied that I am competitive, which I proved today. But when you are so close to a victory it always hurts a bit. This race is very important for the team because in a way, here is our home. Majka is a »Mr.« rider and also a favourite for the Tour de France and I am satisfied with 2nd place.«

BAHRAIN MERIDA Team controlled the race and in the mid-sprint in Žalec, 6 km into the race, Sonny Colbrelli was first. Team’s strategists are satisfied and believe that based on today’s result, Giovanni Visconti could be very competitive in the coming National Championship in Italy.

For tomorrow’s last stage of Tour of Slovenia Sports Director, Gorazd Štangelj, doesn’t expect any bigger differences in General Classification, since Rafal Majka showed today his strength and took over GC leadership ahead of Giovanni Visconti. “What we expect from tomorrow is a stage win and the jersey for points leader with Sonny Colbrelli,” he concluded.
