Gasparotto is third at the Coppa Agostoni
Lissone (Italy), September 15th – BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team‘s colours shined on the podium of the Coppa Agostoni – Giro Delle Brianze.
In a very selective 72nd edition of the opening race of the famous Trittico Lombardo, Enrico Gasparotto managed to take a good third place, coming to the finish line in Lissone 23″ behind Moscon, who outsprinted Taaramae.
“Actually it was a tough race as always” the Italian rider explains “I suffered a lot in the first part, maybe because of the jet leg after Canada. So I was not so much confident of my personal possibilities for today. But at the end I had good legs. Moscon and Caruso were too fast to succeed to follow them on the climb and then in my group, in the final circuit, there was nobody with enough legs to catch Moscon and Taaramäe. I cannot be disappointed. I’m happy with my performance and I did my best as always”.
The 199km race starting and finishing in Lissone, near Monza, saw an early breakaway of a small group of riders that manage to take an advantage of over seven minutes over the bunch. Team BAHRAIN MERIDA boys started to lead the peloton for the chasing after the first 40km circuit, then the race entered in the hardest part with the four laps of the hilly circuit in Brianza, including the climbs of Sirtori, Colle Brianza and Lissolo. That was the decisive moment of the day as TBM Sports Director Alberto Volpi underlines: “Very hard race. We worked a lot because we had boys appointed to do specific job in each part of the race. Unfortunately Colbrelli suffered a lot in the four laps of the Lissolo circuit and then Visconti had a puncture. The organizers assigned the position number 25 to our team car, so he was forced to ask the help of the race service car and then he dropped back to ours. Gasparotto did very well in the finale and was able to retrieve many positions. But I admit that this third place has a bitter taste, because our goal for today’s race was the win”.
