Dubai Tour: Colbrelli is 3rd overall

Dubai, February 10th, 2018 – It was a short and fast race around the streets of Dubai to finish of this year’s Dubai Tour. Our favorites were looking for each other while they let 4 riders escape in the breakaway. The whole race was a preparation for the positions of the sharp corner 3km before the finish line, but it was the last corner, 800m ahead of the finish line, that saw several riders crash, including our Bozic who at the time was leading our train. Luckily Sonny Colbrelli didn’t fall, but because of that crash he lost a few positions. In the end Sonny finished 7th, in the same time as today’s stage winner Elia Viviani, who is also Dubai Tour overall winner. Magnus Cort Nielsen is second and our Sonny Colbrelli is 3rd overall, 14 seconds behind the winner.

“I’m very happy about the team work” – Alberto Volpi, our Sports Director said – “the team worked so well together in every stage, as well as today, but I have to say in all stages the performance was great. Also I’m very happy that from this Dubai Tour we take the podium and stage win, but the most important outcome is that the level of the team working together improved every day. This gives everyone confidence for next races, especially to Vincenzo for the upcoming Tour of Oman, as he worked really hard for the whole team and of course for Sonny. Overall I’m really pleased with this result.”

“Too bad for the crash at the last corner that involved Borut. Before the team worked very well, Cortina helped me find the wheel of Borut. Because of his crash I lost some position and tried to retrieve. The most important thing is that we take the overall podium at the Dubai Tour. It has been a great stage race for me and for the whole team and now we are looking forward to the next targets.” – Sonny Colbrelli said short after the finish.
