Double second for Visconti: stage and overall

  |   Press

“At the beginning of the last climb I called Gasparotto – says Giovanni Visconti, second on the finish line in Volterra – he has seen me and helped me reach the first attackers. Soon I left them and I find myself alone”.

“A few kilometres  from the finish, Martin arrived from behind and we we have been together for a while. He attacked two times and after the second I lost ground for him. Unfortunately, I paid for previous efforts and so the French rider beat me”.

“I was hoping to win – concludes the Italian – but still I got the confirmation that I’m fine and that I’m ready for the upcoming races. I would like, finally, to win but I’m also ready to help Vincenzo to find the victory”.

With his today second place, Visconti has also won the 2nd position in the final Giro della Toscana’s ranking, won by the young talented French Guillaume Martin with Nibali in 4th position in the GC.

“I am happy with the boys commitment – comments SD Alberto Volpi – less for the result. Getting seconds is never nice. Tomorrow is another day and we expect the Coppa Sabatini where we will be working for our captain Sonny Colbrelli. “

Colbrelli is also the last edition race winner and is ready to try to win it for the third time after 2014 and 2016. The 65th Coppa Sabatini will be nearly 200 km with start and finish in Peccioli, a small village among the Tuscan hills.
