GIRO D’ITALIA 2018.

Jerusalem, May 4th – TT / Stage 1

All TBM riders, management and staff were very focused but also relaxed for the big start of Giro 101. The morning recon was to be done as it is usually before the long day of ITT stages. But bad news came just 15 minutes after the TBM riders went on the road. Kanstantsin Siutsou crashed on a part of the road that was a bit ”tricky”, with slight but dangerous bumpy parts on the surface at the right turn. Kanstantsin Siutsou fell over the front wheel and crashed. The ambulance came promptly and took our rider to the local hospital where Dr. Carlo Guardascione, TBM head doctor, immediately joined the medical team.

Unfortunately for Siutsou, he was not able to start the Giro because of the injury. “He has a composite fracture of the third cervical vertebra”, said the team doctor.

Sioutsou is already in the hotel room with the team in Tel Aviv but will travel to Italy as soon as possible for the further treatments with the specialists for such injuries.

Still, a little bitter kickoff of Giro for TBM was successful for Domenico Pozzovivo, our GC rider, who took 10th place, with 27 seconds behind Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb), the winner of Maglia Rosa, which he wore till the end of the last years’ Giro.

All other TBM riders finished successfully the big start of Giro d’Italia today.
