Domenico Pozzovivo grabs the podium at Giro della Toscana
Pontedera (Italy), September 19th – Another podium for BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team after the two brilliant results achieved last weekend. Domenico Pozzovivo takes third place at the Giro della Toscana – Memorial Alfredo Martini, coming to the finish line in Pontedera few seconds behind Moscon, who out-sprinted Bardet.
The trio attacked on the final ascent of Monte Serra, during the third lap of the 55km circuit, that was the heart of the 198.9km race. “Near the summit of the climb I was slightly distanced, but knowing the downhill very well I preferred to control my pace and then managing to chase them on the descent” explained Pozzovivo, who was happy with his result “Both my rivals are stronger than me at the sprint, so it would not have been easy to defeat them. I just tried to go clear approaching the final km, but as expected, Moscon and Bardet were faster than me”.
The course was very selective and a good test for our riders ahead of the World Championships. Besides Pozzovivo, two other BAHRAIN MERIDA boys managed to enter in the top ten: Giovanni Visconti, who won the sprint for the 4h place in the chasing group, that included Matej Mohoric (7th) too.
“We did our best” comments Team BAHRAIN MERIDA Sports Director Alberto Volpi “Our men rode diligently, doing the job assigned, controlling the race and without wasting energies. It was not an easy day due to the challenging course and to the high temperature. In the final, it was not easy to win, with fast riders as Moscon and Bardet”.
