Sakai, 21st May – Tour of Japan 2017 started with a 2.65 km individual time trial in Sakai.

With high concentration and full power acceleration, riders find the shortest distance of the 5 corners of this course. Sakai stage is short distance with great intensity that shows riders’ condition after long travel all the way to Japan.

Iván García Cortina is the first rider from Team Bahrain-Merida, and his impressive performance won us the best young rider jersey. He is 3rd for today and just 0.83 second behind the leader after the fast and technical stage.

“Today was the prologue, only 2.6 kilometers, finally I was third, less than 1 second, I feel good, I feel with power for the next race, we will try to defend the white jersey,”the young Spaniard once again shows his talent and what he can do.

Our Sports Director Tristan Hoffman commented:“This morning first, criterium, short, fast, 5th place; after the prologue, 3rd place, so he was sitting in the hot seat for a long time, 2 guys passed him and that’s how it is. It’s happy to see that he has good legs and we will help him in the bunch sprint, I hope we can do some other results.”
