Cortina white jersey, Colbrelli 8th and Teuns 3rd overall after Stage 3 at Valenciana
Chera (Spain), Friday 8th February – The longest day of this edition of the Volta a La Comunitat Valenciana was a good one for Team BAHRAIN MERIDA, that took a top ten place with Sonny Colbrelli – 8th on the uphill sprint in Chera – the white jersey earned by Ivan Garcia Cortina, the best young rider and Dylan Teuns that jumped to 3rd place overall after Stage 3.
Today’s stage (Quart de Poblet-Chera, 194.3km) was a tough one, across the sierras and with two third category climbs in the final 16km and the uphill finish. Bahrain Merida worked to control the ten-man day’s breakaway, that was caught with about 10km to go.
Then they focused on a final, that could suit Sonny Colbrelli, as Matej Mohoric explained: “Today was a long stage. The first time we went through the finish line we didn’t think it was one for the sprinters, but then at the end Sonny proved he was feeling very strong and he managed to hold on through the last two climbs. In the final we tried to put him in a good position for the sprint, but unfortunately he got a little bit boxed in and he did a mistake in the last corner. He still got a top ten anyway and proved to be in a good shape. He will probably be able to try again for the win in the next days”.
BAHRAIN MERIDA boys are performing well so far at the Valenciana: after stage 3 they were awarded as the Best Team for yesterday’s stage in Alicante.
