Mino, 24th May – Another circuit course after 11.6 km, riders will be riding from Mino Washi Paper Museum for 6 laps, 139.4 km in total in a city with groups of historical building conserved by Gifu Prefecture. A wide and flat course which is quite different from the former stages, it would be the day for Cortina.

It was a relatively calm day, with 2 riders in the breakaway in the beginning and made 7’30’’ gap, but it shrank rapidly as the leader’s were leading the chase. After the final breakaway was brought back, it was Per leading Cortina in the bunch sprint, he started first and took 3 place at the finish. Our best young riders kept the white jersey another day for Team Bahrain-Merida in 2017 TOJ!

“In the sprint, we took a very good position, in the final Per helped me a lot. He’d started pulling like 500 meters to go, to 300, and I started the sprint too much in the beginning, because I wanted to try a different sprint, like do a little bit earlier. I am happy I have good feelings, we will try to keep the white jersey for few more days also with Novak, he is our leader for GC!”
