Cortina 5th in Lleida
Lleida, September 13th 2018 – Ivan Garcia Cortina arrived 5th at the end of the stage won by the Belgian Jelle Wallays protagonist, along with two other riders, of a long breakaway left just 3km kilometers after the start.
The early attackers resisted the peloton’s comeback and so preceded on the finish line the fast wheels. “I am a rider – explains Ivan – who always likes to try to make a result and then even if I knew that by now the victory had vanished I made a full gas sprint to get into the Top5”.
“I was behind Elia Viviani and we arrived very close – still Ivan – the last chance is now the last stage in Madrid and I hope that the pure sprinters arrive in the Spanish Capital a bit more tired than me!”.
Sport Director Gorazd Štangelj: “The wind has influenced today’s stage that in the end has become very challenging. In the second part, the pace was high and more than one riders arrived very tired and this even after yesterday’s efforts. Tomorrow another chill stage but I see Ion very quiet and still with a good state of form “.
No change in the General Classification with our Ion Izagirre always in 7th position.
Tomorrow’s stage in Andorra is the first decisive race for the victory of LaVuelta 2018. Just over 150km with a challenging route and the arrival at the top of Coll de la Rabassa at 17km climb with an average gradient close to 7% .
