Lissone > Lissone 195.5km.
Solid performance from Andrea Garosio at the Coppa Agostoni. The Italian climber was amongst the most active and took 10th place in Lissone.
The opening race of the “Trittico Regione Lombardia” was tough and very selective as usual. The high temperatures made it even harder and only less than 60 riders could finish the race.
After the bunch caught the break of the day, Garosio was part of an 11-man group of attackers that went clear on the last climb of the day of the hilly circuit, that riders have to repeat four times. Then the decisive move, with two riders that attacked from the breakaway and couldn’t be got back any more. Riabuschenko was the fastest in the two-man sprint in Lissone, with Lutsenko second and Cherkasov in third place (+31”). Behind them, the chasing group including Garosio arrived with a gap of 1’20”. Team Bahrain Merida rider gave his best, but due to cramps, he couldn’t properly sprint to improve his position.
“It’s a top ten anyway and we should be happy with this” TBM Sports Director Alberto Volpi explains “Garosio has to be satisfied with his performance on such a demanding course”.
“Yes, I’m happy” the Italian riders concludes “I’m just a bit disappointed because of cramps. Other riders were faster than me, but maybe I could take a better result at the sprint”.
