Colbrelli sprints to 6th place in Genève

  |   Press

Genève (Switzerland), April 29th – No happy ending at the Tour de Romandie for Team BAHRAIN MERIDA. In the final stage 5 (Mont-sur-Rolle – Genève, 181.8km) Sonny Colbrelli was looking for a win, but although a good team work, in the final corner he has been boxed in and he could only sprint for a 6th place.

“First of all I would like to thank my teammates for their amazing job. I did a mistake in the finale not following the stage winner Ackermann and I found myself behind. I finished the Romandie with another good result, but you know, the win as a different taste” states Colbrelli, two-times second this week.

“A bitter ending” comments Team BAHRAIN MERIDA Sports Director Harald Morscher “The boys worked very hard to help Sonny for the sprint. Unfortunately there was a downhill in the final and Sonny has been boxed. But all in all even though we did not take stage victories, our squad showed team spirit and we can just have some regrets for having blown some chances”.

Overall winner of the Tour de Romandie is the Slovenian Primoz Roglic, with our Ion Izagirre 11th and best-placed for our team.

“We deserved more” concludes Enrico Gasparotto “Too bad because our race has been perfect today too, both in controlling the race and setting the sprint”.
