Tour de France 2017.

TROYES – NUIT SAINT GEORGES 213,5 km / Stage 7

Nuit-Saint-Georges, France, July 7th

It was another stage for sprinters, similar to stage 6, under very tough weather conditions. After the start in Troyes at almost 29°C, a group of four riders made a breakaway that went up to 3 minutes. TBM riders stayed together again and kept their eyes on Sonny Colbrelli. The temperature got close to 35°C again and it was really hard and challenging for all the riders to work and service their sprinters and keep them as fresh as possible for the last kilometers.

Quick Step Floors, FDJ and Lotto-Soudal were controlling the peloton, speeding up and giving the rhythm in front of the bunch. The breakaway riders were caught, as expected, 5 km before the finish. On a wide road leading to the finish line, Marcel Kittel, Quick Step Floors, had the best momentum again, for the third time in seven days. He won in a photo-finish, ahead of Edvald Boasson, Team Dimension Data. Counting today’s, Kittel took 12 victories in Tour de France since his first in 2012.

Sonny Colbrelli, unfortunately, didn’t get the chance to catch the first rows and compete for a better position.

Jani Brajkovič commented today’s stage: “Today was a real Tour day. A stressful day with a crosswind, which made all riders more nervous and speed went up and down continuously. I’m glad there were no crashes and all in all I think it was a good day.«
