Sunday, 15th January – With over 50 kilometer’s high speed in the 22 laps circuit, 126 riders showed their brand-new kits, bikes and legs for the brand-new season. It is Niccolò Bonifazio was the best placed in BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team, he finished the 51 kilometers circuit after Caleb Ewan(Orica-Scott), Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe).

“It’s a fast race, 50k in one hour, very fast. And final, I tried a good position, and finished 4th. I’m really happy, thank you for my team. This is a new experience, and very good,” said Bonifazio with smile wearing on his face. And Chun Kai Feng, his Taiwanese teammate who tried his legs in the second lap, said: “I will try whenever there is a chance. It’s getting better as I find my rhythm in the race back.”

And our sports director Phillipe Mauduit concluded: “It’s a special race, it’s only 50 kilometers. It’s very fast, and we know we don’t have a team to make a lead-out, so the boys tried to bring Niccolò in a good position in the last 2, 3 laps, that’s what they did, they did it perfectly. Chun Kai Feng did an amazing job in the last 2, 3 laps, and Niccolò gave his best. It’s good for the coming days. It’s important to start well, the real race starts in 2 days, I saw the boys are ready.”

People Choice’s Classic once again set the tone of the upcoming week. On 17th January, we are expecting another day for hungry sprinters on the 145 km from Unley to Lyndoch of Tour Down Under Stage 1, where we will see the first winner of ocher jersey.
