BAHRAIN MERIDA lineup for Clásica de San Sebastián
Monday, 24th July 2017 – Selected riders of BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team are already focusing on the days and races following Tour de France, one of them being Clásica de San Sebastián. 37th edition of this Spanish one-day race will be held next Saturday, the 29th of July.
231 kilometres long, Clásica de San Sebastián is played out on a route through the steep hills of the Basque Country, Spain. The course goes over eight climbs with the steep Murgil Tontorra as the last challenge. It’s a 2.5 kilometers climb with a gradient of 9% and the steepest ramp of 22%.
Enrico Gasparotto, one of the riders in the lineup for Clásica de San Sebastián, is careful with his predictions for the race: “San Sebastian will be my first race after the rest period, so the plan is to give my maximum, being aware that I will have to fight against guys that are coming from the Tour de France, with stronger legs and in better shape. I have to fall into the race rhythm again, after a long period of altitude training, and it will be difficult and hard to compete with the big names.”
Mario Chiesa, Sports Director for the race, revealed some key points for the strategy: “We will try to use the breakaway from the start and bring Gasparotto in the best possible position on the last climb. Riders that finished Tour de France will have some days to rest and to get new energy and it will be easier for them to race than for the riders that haven’t ridden for a long time.”
The full BAHRAIN MERIDA lineup for Clásica de San Sebastián is: Yukiya Arashiro, Cortina Ivan, Janez Brajkovič , Enrico Gasparotto, Tsgabu Grmay, Ion Insausti, Javier Moreno and Luka Pibernik.
