BAHRAIN MERIDA extends contract with Sonny Colbrelli
Monday, 5th June 2017 – Sonny Colbrelli will continue his professional cycling career at BAHRAIN MERIDA Team, having signed a contract extension for another year.
The 27-year-old, a former member of Bardiani Team, has been in BAHRAIN MERIDA Team since the establishment of the team and the beginning of their first WorldTour season in 2017. He is one of the most important sprinters and all-rounders of our Team who showed an excellent performance and some significant results in the previous months. He won the Brabantse Pijl. He was 9th at Amstel Gold Race. He won Stage 2 of Paris-Nice. He took second place on Stage 4 and third place on Stage 1 of Tour of Oman and 10th place overall on Roonde van Vlaanderen. Beside that, he showed some excellent sprints and solid finishes and also worked great with the rest of the Team.
Brent Copeland, General Manager of the Team: “We at BAHRAIN MERIDA are very pleased to have found an agreement with Sonny to extend his contract with the team, Sonny was one of the first riders to believe in this project when he originally signed and yet again we are proud to say he is one of the first to renew with this contractual extension. Sonny is a huge asset to the team, we have seen how his improvement and confidence has increased in the past few months, he is learning to take on the role of a true leader, we also believe he has a lot more room for improvement and we see what dedication he has put into reaching his goals and for this reason together with many other optimistic reasons the management of the team are proud to make this announcement.”
“I’m really happy to announce the extension of my contract with BAHRAIN MERIDA Team,” commented Sonny Colbrelli. “From the beginning my relationship with the team, my new teammates, sports directors, mechanics, masseurs, team managers and everyone else was great. They trust me and consider me a leader, a captain. When I received this proposal to renew my contract I didn’t think twice. I am grateful to BAHRAIN MERIDA Team because they are taking me to the top of the pro cycling, to compete with big champions worldwide. I have a great staff around me and amazing teammates that support me in each race and motivate me to do the best. Even if the race is difficult, they know that I will try to come to the line, giving everything I can. Also sports directors, masseurs and mechanics are some of the best in the world and they contribute significantly to our performance. BAHRAIN MERIDA Team is my cycling family. I am really honoured to wear this jersey and I hope I will be able to wear it for a long time.”
