An ambitious team for Tre Valli

  |   Press

After two races in the last weekend, next Tuesday TBM will be at the start of the 98th edition of the Tre Valli Varesine. The race – this year almost 200km – will start from Saronno and then tackle a long flat part along the lakes of Varese and Comabbio. Around the 80th kilometer, the peloton will start the first of 6 laps of a 12.7km circuit with some challenging points. The last two laps, however, exceed the 21km because they expect to overcome Calcinate del Pesce’s climb.

“It’s not a regular climb – explains SD Alberto Volpi – but in its almost 2km in some parts it’s quite easy but in others it also reaches a 16% gradient. I think that will make the difference because when you get to the top the road continues towards the finish line without giving the possibility to recover. Our captain will be Vincenzo Nibali, whom I have seen growing and at his side there will be very strong climbers such as Franco Pellizotti, Hermann Pernsteiner and Giovanni Visconti “.

The Italian champion has always had a good feeling with the Tre Valli Varesine with the victory in 2015 and the 3rd place last year: “With the new ascent – analyzes Nibali – there will be even more selection than usual. I ran on Saturday and the feelings were good and I think I can have a good race both at the Tre Valli and next Saturday at Il Lombardia “.

“Our task – says Franco Pellizotti – will be above all to stay close to Vincenzo to maintain the best position in the bunch. I expect an incandescent finale where those who have saved more energy can play for the victory “.
