An ambitious team for the Italian Championship

  |   Press

Next Saturday, Darfo Boario Terme will host the road race that will assign the Italian champion jersey. The riders will have to face a 233km route with short and explosive climbs to be repeated several times.

SD Alberto Volpi is optimistic: ”We have a very strong and compact team that can do very well on such a nervous route. We will have 10 riders at the start with different characteristics but who collaborating together can aim to win this special competition. I am convinced that both Vincenzo Nibali and Sonny Colbrelli will be among the protagonists of the race”.

Nibali is ready: “I will arrive to this race after the Passo San Pellegrino’s training camp and just a few days before the start of the Tour. I already won the road race title two times and I will try to win one more time because wearing for one year the national champion jersey is a great goal for any Italian rider. I don’t know the route, but they told me that will be very tough. Our team is very strong and we will be able to choose different solutions in the finale”.

For Colbrelli this race is very significant: “For me it’s like racing at home because I live about 50 kilometers from the start. I like the route even if compared to the year of Nizzolo’s victory, there is a bit more climb. I think we must be careful of rivals like Ulissi, Battaglin, Canola who are riding really well “.

TBM’s line-up for the Italian Championship: Valerio Agnoli, Manuele Boaro, Niccolò Bonifazio, Sonny Colbrelli, Enrico Gasparotto, Antonio Nibali, Vincenzo Nibali, Franco Pellizotti, Domenico Pozzovivo and Giovanni Visconti.

The National Championships of Austria and Belarus are also scheduled for this weekend. Hermann Pernsteiner will be at the start of the road race in Austria, while Kanstantsin Siutsou will do the ITT on Friday and the road race Sunday.
