Amstel Gold Race

April 21st

SUNDAY, 21 APR 2019

Maastricht – Berg en Terblijt, 265.7km. Through the Limburg hilss with 35 punchy climbs.

With the exception of Grega Bole’s move and his strong ride on the breakaway of the day, Bahrain Merida colours did not shine through the Limburg hills of the Amstel Gold Race.
The Slovenian rider was part of a small group that went clearly after 20km into the race and he was one of the last to be caught with 36km to go. In that moment there were a serious of attacks that split the peloton. Unfortunately, none of our riders were able to stay with the main group and Matej Mohoric, Grega Bole, Dylan Teuns and Damiano Caruso could only finish with the third group, crossing the finish line in Valkenburg with a big gap to the Dutch National Champion Van der Poel, winner of a reduced group sprint.
Team Bahrain Merida Sports Director Rik Verbrugghe comments briefly: “Today was not a good day for the Team. Dylan had a flat tyre 45km from the finish and Matej on the crucial point of the race. This is not an excuse, that we didn’t have nobody there at the front, but today was actually a day to forget”.
