Venice (Favaro Veneto) – Grado, 189km. 6 gravel sectors.

Epic and brutal day on the gravel roads along the venetian coasts. Peloton had to ride through six gravel sectors, among dust and with very high temperatures. On a pan flat course, a reduced group sprint was expected on the paper. It could be a new opportunity for Bauhaus, but the most important mission of the day was to protect Mark Padun for the overall, ahead of tomorrow’s “Dolomite stage”. “This was our main aim and we succeeded” Team Bahrain Merida Sports Director Paolo Artuso explains “As we had also Heinrich Haussler at the front, we tried to sprint to win, taking a good 6th place with him. It was difficult to improve this result seen that fourth men from Deceuninck were there and in fact, they did hattrick. Our boys performed well. We must say that we had also bad luck with some crashes – Padun was involved too, happily without any serious injury – and punctures”.
