A long and hard 3rd stage, like a classic race

Tour de France 2017.

VERVIERS – LONGWY – 212,5 km / Stage 3

Longwy, France, July 3rd –  Third stage of Tour de France started today in Belgian Verviers, went through Luxembourg and entered the French soil for the first time in its’ 104th edition. A sunny day with lots of cross wind made this stage hard with a hard tempo.

Again an early breakaway of with 4 riders that kept the break of maximum 3 minutes. All teams worked hard to bring their sprinters to the last section for a long sprint.

Peter Sagan (BOH) the World Champion won today’s stage as a nominated favorite. Michael Matthews (SUN) was the runner up and 3rd place went to Dan Martin (QSF).

TBM riders worked good and brought Sonny Colbrelli on the high position as planned, but this time Sonny couldn’t find more sprinting fuel for the last few hundred meters.

Borut Božič: It was a very hard day with lots of ups n’ downs, it looked more like a classic race and we as a team were working quite good and then at the final it started o be really hectic with high speed, lots of corners and roundabouts and there were some crashes.  Sonny didn’t feel like he should, but this is Tour de France, and one day you feel good, next day you don’t. That’s how it is here. I had one crash, but all is OK with me. Just few scratches.
