Tour of the Alps

April 22nd – 26th

MONDAY, 22 APR 2019

Kufstein – Kufstein, 144km. With no long climbs, but a lumpy and weary profile.

Vincenzo Nibali attacked on the final climb with 14km go. The Italian champion started in the steepest part of the climb and was followed by only three riders, before the small group of 20 resumed them shortly from the finish line.
“It was a good stage to try a very explosive climb and then ups and downs and I thought i could try to do a solo action. The two Sky riders and Rafal Majka were good at following me right away and then the Astana men closed the gap “.
“For me it is important to understand how I am, how I worked at Teide and today sensations are undoubtedly good and encouraging. I thank all my teammates that took me to the top positions and tomorrow the most demanding stage of this Tour awaits us ”.
The British Tao Geoghegan Hart won the first stage and he’s also the first leader of the race.
