Izaguirre to lead Team Bahrain Merida at Tour of Romandie

  |   Press
71st edition of Tour of Romandie goes from 25th to 30th of April. The six-day stage race has to offer us a mix for everyone – two mountain stages, two chrono races and two potential sprint finishes, or breakaway escapes.
The queen stage of this tour will be stage 4 with start at Domdidier, passing two category 1 and one category 2 mountain tops, while finishing on another category 1 top at Leysin. The last stage is a hilly individual time trial in Lausanne.
Our team leader for this tour will be Jon Izaguirre, who will try to repeat his good form from Vuelta a Pais Vasco, while we’ll have our super sprinter Sonny Colbrelli aim to win those sprinter stages. Enrico Gasparotto will be close t0 home in south-west Switzerland and he’ll try to surpass his best result – 2nd place at stage 2 in 2013th edition of this race. All of them will have a great help from Brajkovic, Cink, Grmay, Antonio Nibali and Wang.
This Tour of Romandie our team will wear specially designed helmets with a logo of Greenhope. It’s a Swiss foundation using sport to help cancer effected kids. Together we will promote the foundation on our social media during the course of the race. We will also host the foundation members and kids one day during the race. #ride4hope
Tristan Hoffman, our sports director: “The race is quite diverse, with stages up for grabs for mountain climbers, sprinters and chromo specialists. Our biggest opportunity at the race is for Sonny to get a stage win, and for Jon to go top 3 in GC.”
